AfD sees surge in support after German coalition collapse, Scholz’s popularity declines

Following the collapse of Germany’s “traffic light coalition,” support for the right-wing “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) has surged, while Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s approval ratings have dropped.

A recent INSA poll, conducted after the coalition’s downfall, revealed shifts in public opinion, with the AfD experiencing the most significant increase in support.

The poll showed that Scholz’s SPD maintained its support at 15.5%, unchanged from the previous week but 1.5 percentage points lower than at the end of October.

The opposition CDU gained 0.5 percentage points, now leading with 32.5% support.

The AfD saw the largest gain, rising by 1.5 percentage points to reach 19.5% support. The party’s leader, Alice Weidel, also saw a rise in her popularity, moving up from 17th to 14th place among well-known German politicians.
