Spain arrested one of its senior police officers after discovering 20 million euros hidden in the walls and ceiling of his home. The officer is also suspected of collaborating with drug traffickers.
This was reported by The Guardian, citing information from sources in the police and judiciary.
As noted by journalists, Óscar Sánchez Gil had recently headed the National Police’s department for combating fraud and money laundering in Madrid.
An informed source revealed that last week, law enforcement arrested him along with 15 other individuals, including his romantic partner, who is also a police officer in Madrid.
During the raid, the police discovered 20 million euros in cash hidden in the walls and ceiling of the couple’s home in Alcalá de Henares. According to the police source, officers also found 1 million euros in his office, hidden in two locked cabinets, in banknotes ranging from 50 to 500 euros.
