Germany has banned ports from accepting tankers with Russian gas

The German Ministry of Economics has instructed state-owned import terminals to refuse liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments from Russia. This was reported by the Financial Times, citing a letter from the ministry.

In a letter dated November 6, obtained by the publication, the German Ministry of Economics ordered the company Deutsche Energy Terminal “not to accept any Russian LNG shipments” following notification of a planned delivery.

The ministry stated that the order was issued to protect “overriding public interests” and urged the operator to refuse Russian LNG “until further notice.”

In its letter, the Ministry of Economics noted that allowing such shipments would contradict the very purpose of establishing the terminals—to ensure Germany’s and the EU’s independence from Russian gas.
