In Norway, man gets 6 years in prison for possessing $1.4 million worth of hashish

A court in Sør-Rogaland, Norway, has sentenced a man to six years in prison for storing over 80 kg of hashish in his van.

The drugs were discovered by chance when a customs officer walking a service dog noticed the animal’s reaction to the van. Upon calling the police, authorities found 80.7 kg of hashish and 650 grams of cocaine inside. Journalists estimated the hashish’s value at around 16 million Norwegian kroner (approximately $1.4 million).

The man pleaded not guilty in court but could reduce his sentence to three years if he agrees to participate in a drug rehabilitation program.

Similar drug-related cases have recently made headlines in Europe. These include, Finnish authorities suspect a man of large-scale drug distribution, and Dutch customs officers uncovered 720 kg of cocaine hidden among bananas from Ecuador.
