Orbán calls for EU to reevaluate energy sanctions against Russia to lower prices

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has called for the European Union to reconsider its sanctions on Russia, arguing that they are contributing to high energy prices in Europe.

In an interview with Hungarian public radio, Orbán emphasized the need to reduce energy costs “by any means.” He pointed out that under the current sanctions regime, energy prices are unlikely to decrease.

Orban also highlighted the disparity in energy costs between the U.S. and Europe, noting that American companies are paying only a quarter of what European businesses spend on gas and electricity. He suggested that this gap cannot be addressed through other measures.

This means that sanctions must be reconsidered, because under the current sanctions policy, energy prices will not go down, Orbán stated.
