European Parliament boycotted Zelensky’s speech

Members of the European Parliament from Slovakia’s Smer-SD party, led by Prime Minister Robert Fico, boycotted a speech by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to MEP Ľuboš Blaha.

Zelensky’s video address was broadcast to the European Parliament on Tuesday. In a video posted on his Telegram channel, Blaha explained the decision:

The Smer-SD party, represented in the European Parliament, decided to boycott today’s speech by Volodymyr Zelensky.

Smer-SD has five representatives in the European Parliament, including Blaha. He criticized Zelensky’s policies, stating, “I am convinced that Zelensky’s politics of hatred toward Russia is driving us, and the entire world, toward a nuclear conflict.”

Blaha also accused the Ukrainian government of authoritarianism, highlighting the persecution of opposition figures in Ukraine. He further blamed Zelensky for the continued loss of lives due to the ongoing conflict.
