Conservatives are not particularly well received by the Germans, according to a new poll.
In an exclusive INSA survey for NIUS (1004 respondents), expectations of the upcoming term of office of elected US President Donald Trump outweigh the expectations. The Union’s candidate for chancellor, Friedrich Merz (CDU), also raises rather negative expectations.
While 48 percent of the respondents tend to (25 percent) or very (23 percent) have negative expectations of Merz, 35 percent see a possible chancellorship of the CDU boss rather (27 percent) or very (8 percent) as positive (17 percent do not know / none Information). It is interesting that men are ahead of women in both positive (40 percent) and negative (49 percent) expectations (30 percent positive, 46 percent negative). Unsurprisingly, women are much more pessimistic about a chancellorship.
If you look at the expectations by age group, it is the over 60-year-olds who, at 40 percent, have hopes for a chancellery Merz ’. Among the Merz critics, the age group of 50 to 59 year olds stands out with 54 percent negative expectations. It is also interesting that the supporters and supporters of the FDP are divided with a view to Merz: 43 percent see his possible chancellorship positively, 39 percent negative.
Women see Trump significantly more negatively than men
The negative expectations regarding Donald Trump’s upcoming term in office are even clearer. Here 64 percent of Germans see negative developments (20 percent) or very (44 percent). Women (70 percent) see Trump significantly more negatively than men (58 percent). Women (18 percent) are also less represented than men (33 percent) among those who have a positive view of the Trump government.
It is interesting that the older the respondents, the more pronounced the negative expectations of Trump are. Among the over 70s, 81 percent say they see Trump’s term in office negatively. The younger the respondents, the less negative the elected US president is seen. The 18- to 29-year-olds stand out particularly clearly among the Trump supporters. In this age group, 49 percent share positive expectations with its administration. It is only 13 percent of those over the age of 70.
Trump’s biggest rejection is in favor of the Greens (91 percent) followed by supporters of the Union (77 percent), the SPD (76 percent) and the left (75 percent). In the AfD environment, 60 percent share positive expectations with Trump’s term in office.
