On the morning of November 19th, the Netherlands experienced record traffic jams, with the total length of congestion exceeding 1,100 kilometers due to poor weather and multiple accidents.
By 8 a.m., as many people were traveling, traffic jams spanned the entire country, with traffic almost completely halted in over 200 locations. Certain sections of the roads saw delays ranging from several kilometers to up to 10 kilometers.
The primary cause of the traffic disruption was the bad weather, which made driving conditions hazardous and led to numerous minor accidents. Similar weather conditions are expected to cause further traffic issues in the evening.
The previous record for 2024 was set on October 1st, when traffic jams reached over 1,080 kilometers.
In some cases, road disruptions in Europe are caused by strikes and protests, such as during the winter wave of farmer strikes across several EU nations.
