German citizen arrested in Russia on terrorism charges

Nikolai Gaiduk, a German citizen, has been arrested in the Kaliningrad region of Russia.

According to the Federal Security Service (FSB), he is linked to an explosion at a gas distribution station in Kaliningrad that occurred in March of this year. The investigation claims that Gaiduk traveled to Russia from Poland to carry out the sabotage.

TASS reports that the suspect was detained upon re-entering the Kaliningrad region from Poland. In his car, authorities allegedly discovered 0.5 liters of liquid explosives.

The investigation believes Gaiduk received instructions to sabotage the gas distribution station from a Ukrainian citizen living in Hamburg. In videos released by media, the man claims he was assigned the task by “colleague Alexander Zhorov, a retired lieutenant colonel of the Odessa police.”

Haiduk is currently in custody, facing charges of smuggling and terrorism. The German authorities have refrained from commenting on the matter for now.
