Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico characterized the U.S. decision to allow Ukraine to use its weapons to strike Russian territory as irresponsible.
He stated that this decision confirms the West’s unwillingness to end the conflict in Ukraine.
Escalation is already happening, not just being threatened. This is an absolutely irresponsible decision by the American administration, Fico said at a press conference in response to a question about the potential consequences of this move.
Fico emphasized that Slovakia, sharing a border with Ukraine, is interested in a peaceful resolution of the conflict. He also reminded that Slovakia has numerous joint civil projects with Ukraine, including the modernization of border crossings and the development of railway connections.
According to the prime minister, the U.S. decision confirms that the West is not interested in peace in Ukraine and naively hopes that it will weaken Russia in negotiations. He also noted that Russia continues to strengthen its position, and Western sanctions are not having a significant impact on the economy.
Fico expressed regret that the European Union does not have an independent stance on the matter, stressing that the EU is following Washington’s lead. The prime minister pointed out that this “dangerous adventure” may ultimately harm Ukraine, as the West, in his view, continues to support the war until the last Ukrainian soldier.
