Slovakia investigates legality of military equipment transfer to Ukraine by previous government

Slovakia’s Interior Minister, Šutaj Eštok, announced an investigation into the legality of military equipment transfers to Ukraine by the country’s previous authorities between 2022 and 2023.

The inquiry focuses on the alleged unauthorized transfer of weapons that could have compromised Slovakia’s defense capabilities.

Eštok criticized the previous government for transferring Slovakia’s defense technologies to Ukraine “without any restrictions or permissions,” noting that the military equipment was purchased with Slovak taxpayer money. He accused the former administration of acting against the interests of the Slovak Republic, possibly in favor of its own or foreign interests.

“They transferred our defense technologies to a foreign country without any restrictions or permissions. The military equipment was purchased with our money. The government at the time acted not in the interests of the Slovak Republic, but in the interests of its own or ‘possibly foreign’ ones. During the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Slovakia was left ‘naked and barefoot’ in terms of its defense capabilities.”
