Climate activists from the Extinction Rebellion movement staged a protest outside the Ministry of the Interior in Rome, dumping manure on the sidewalk and setting up a camp near the building.
Around a hundred young people unexpectedly began their protest after 11:00 AM local time, chanting slogans in defense of the environment and jobs, according to Corriere della Sera. The activists arrived in a truck loaded with manure, which they dumped in front of the ministry’s building, and set up tents on the street.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police removed the protesters from their tents. Several individuals were detained after attempting to hang a banner on trees. Some activists resisted “passively” by sitting on the ground surrounded by a police cordon. All detainees were taken to the police station for identity verification.
