Moldova’s PAS party sends SMS messages urging support for Romanian presidential candidate

In Moldova, people have started receiving SMS messages on behalf of Moldova’s President Maia Sandu’s party, Action and Solidarity (PAS), urging them to support one of the candidates in Romania’s presidential election. The party explained this as a result of political cooperation between the two countries.

Many people in Moldova received multiple SMS messages from Action and Solidarity (PAS) calling on them to participate in the Romanian presidential election if they hold Romanian citizenship, and to support Nicolae Ciucă, a candidate from the National Liberal Party. The message reads: “November 24 – the first round of the presidential election in Romania. Come with your Romanian documents to one of the 59 polling stations in Moldova and vote for Nicolae Ciucă.”

The party’s press secretary, Andriana Vlas, commented on the issue, confirming that the SMS campaign was indeed ordered by the party, as they have close ties with the Romanian National Liberal Party.

“PAS publicly supports the National Liberal Party in the parliamentary and presidential elections in Romania,” Vlas noted.

To remind, Romania’s presidential election will take place on November 24, where voters will choose a winner from among 14 candidates. Voting at overseas polling stations, which is allocated three days, has already begun.
