Three arrested for racist insults during October’s El Clásico match

Spanish police have arrested three individuals accused of shouting racist slurs at two Barcelona players during an October match against Real Madrid.

“Three people were arrested for racist insults directed at two footballers during the El Clásico match in October,” police confirmed.

Among those allegedly targeted was Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal, who has Equatorial Guinean and Moroccan heritage. Authorities stated that the detainees “made xenophobic remarks that violated the dignity and moral integrity of both players.”

Spain’s High Council for Sport (CSD) and La Liga condemned the incidents. Real Madrid also launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators.

Spanish Minister for Migration, Elma Saiz, strongly criticized the behavior, saying:
“We will not allow aggression, which we do not tolerate in other areas, to become normalized in sports.”
