Following the FPÖ’s resounding election win in Styria, party chief Herbert Kickl didn’t hold back in issuing a fiery challenge. He urged ÖVP leader Karl Nehammer to announce his resignation imminently—and he’s not mincing words about why.
In a groundbreaking turn of events, the FPÖ has made history in Styria. Latest projections show the freedom party clinching 34.8% of the vote in the state election, landing them in first place for the very first time. Meanwhile, the ÖVP lagged behind, securing only 26.8% and settling for second place.
Following this monumental victory, FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl took to social media with a bold and passionate statement. “We are deeply overwhelmed, humble, and grateful for your great support! Today is a historic day for Styria and for our entire liberal family,” he wrote.
Kickl didn’t stop there. He framed the win as a decisive rejection of what he called the “loser traffic light” coalition that he accuses Nehammer and Babler of attempting to construct.
In his post, Kickl left no room for ambiguity, openly calling for Chancellor Nehammer’s resignation. “It can therefore be assumed that Nehammer will take his hat off tonight. Anything else would be absurd after such an ÖVP debacle,” he declared.
With this dramatic victory, Kickl has thrown down the gauntlet, signaling a seismic shift in Styrian politics and raising the stakes for Austria’s political future.
