Following a disappointing performance in the presidential elections, members of Romania’s National Liberal Party (PNL) are calling for a leadership change.
The party’s candidate, Nicolae Ciucă, received less than 9% of the vote, prompting internal demands for a reset of the party’s leadership and strategies.
Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja criticized the current leadership, stating, “The first and most important conclusion after this difficult day is that the current leadership absolutely did not achieve the set goal… I am confident that we will conduct a ‘cold-headed’ analysis together, but everything we saw (strategy, messages, direction) was wrong.”
Another party member, George Tuță, labeled the outcome “a complete failure,” adding, “The candidate and his campaign had all the necessary resources and support… The message from voters is very clear.”
The results of Romania’s first round of presidential elections were unexpected, with the right-wing candidate, Kelin Georgescu, securing first place.
