16 people are missing after a sightseeing ship sank in the Red Sea

After the Sea Story yacht sank off the coast of Egypt, 16 people have gone missing, including three German nationals.

A representative of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed this information, noting that the German embassy in Cairo is actively working with local authorities.

The yacht sank on Monday morning near the Egyptian resort of Marsa Alam. There were 44 people on board, 28 of whom were rescued, including three Germans. One of the survivors, Matthias B. from Bavaria, is receiving medical treatment in the hospital. Meanwhile, rescue operations continue, but with each passing minute, the chances of finding other survivors are diminishing.

Preliminary information suggests that the yacht set out to sea despite warnings of an approaching storm. The Egyptian prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the operator company based in Hurghada, suspecting it may have ignored weather warnings. One of the crew members reported that the ship capsized due to a sudden, strong wave.

Among the missing are tourists from Germany, the UK, the USA, Poland, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland, China, Spain and Slovakia. At least three bodies have already been found.
