The number of Ukrainian refugees intending to remain in Germany has increased significantly, according to Mark Seibert, President of the State Office for Refugee Affairs.
Speaking to the German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Seibert shared insights from regular surveys conducted at an emergency aid center in Berlin, which houses thousands of Ukrainian refugees.
“A year and a half ago, most respondents expressed a desire to return to Ukraine. Now, the majority—65%—say, ‘We are staying here. We are settling down,'” Seibert reported.
Germany continues to lead in hosting Ukrainian refugees, with over 1.1 million Ukrainian citizens granted temporary protection in the country, according to the latest data.
