Valencia floods: Sanchez blamed local authorities and offered support measures

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that responsibility for the tragic floods in Valencia, which claimed over 220 lives, lies with the regional authorities.

According to Sánchez, the management system did not fail, but certain officials failed to fulfill their duties. He called for the resignation of Valencia’s regional president, Carlos Mazón, and proposed creating a commission to investigate the causes of the disaster.

During his speech in the Congress of Deputies, the Prime Minister announced a third relief package worth €16.6 billion. The new package includes 60 measures aimed at restoring affected areas, supporting families, and modernizing infrastructure.

Opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo accused the government of inaction and lack of self-criticism, demanding Sánchez’s resignation. In response, the Prime Minister emphasized that his administration is doing everything possible to address the consequences of the disaster.
