Employment among Ukrainian refugees in Germany on the rise

The number of Ukrainian refugees finding jobs in Germany is increasing. According to the Federal Employment Agency, approximately 75,000 Ukrainians were employed in the past year alone.

Two summers ago, 197,660 Ukrainians were employed, but that number has now climbed to 272,400 this summer.

“Today, the likelihood that Ukrainians will find a job is significantly higher than before the launch of the employment acceleration program,” said the agency’s head in an interview with RND.

Surveys indicate that many Ukrainian refugees have changed their plans about returning to their homeland and now intend to settle in Germany. Mark Seibert, president of the State Refugee Office, told the dpa agency that regular surveys at Berlin’s emergency assistance center—home to thousands of Ukrainian refugees—show that “a year and a half ago, most said they wanted to return to Ukraine. Now, the majority—65%—say, ‘We are staying here. We are settling in.’”

Germany continues to lead Europe in hosting Ukrainian refugees, with over 1.1 million individuals currently residing in the country.
