A Czech city plans to introduce positions for Ukrainian police assistants

The Czech city of Jihlava is planning to create positions for Ukrainian police assistants to improve interaction between law enforcement and the local Ukrainian community, as well as to help prevent offenses.

According to Mayor Petr Ryška, these assistants could strengthen trust between the police and the large Ukrainian diaspora, which numbers around 7,000 people in Jihlava, a city with a total population of 50,000.

To implement this initiative, the city administration intends to apply for funding. The mayor stated that if suitable candidates are found, they could begin work as early as spring.

Ryška emphasized that the main selection criterion is the candidate’s ability to be as effective as possible in this role, regardless of how long they have lived in the city.

The assistants will collaborate with the police to help maintain public order and raise awareness about the importance of abiding by the law, the city administration clarified.
