U.S. President Joe Biden has signed a pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, who was convicted of tax violations and firearm-related offenses.
In his statement, Biden emphasized that his son’s case was politically motivated and the charges were unjust. According to the President, Hunter did not commit serious crimes, and similar offenses typically do not lead to prosecution.
Biden also pointed out that his opponents in Congress used Hunter’s case as a tool to attack him personally.
This was an attempt to break me through my son, Biden stated.
Former President Donald Trump sharply criticized Biden’s decision, calling it a “miscarriage of justice.”
Does the pardon Joe gave to Hunter include those I call the ‘January 6 hostages,’ who have been imprisoned for years? This is a blatant abuse and violation of justice! Trump declared.
Hunter Biden was accused of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes, tax evasion, and illegal firearm possession. He faced up to 17 years in prison. Previously, a plea deal between prosecutors and Hunter’s defense, which would have avoided criminal charges in exchange for a guilty plea, was rejected by the court.
