In South Korea, a vote was held to cancel the state of emergency

The South Korean Parliament voted to revoke the state of emergency in the country.

During the session, Parliament Speaker U Won-sik announced that all 190 deputies present at the session supported the cancellation of the emergency measures.

Earlier, U Won-sik expressed his firm opposition to the introduction of martial law, which became one of the reasons for the discussion of this issue in Parliament. The Speaker stated that such measures could lead to the destruction of the country’s democratic institutions and undermine public trust in the authorities.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol announced the imposition of martial law late on Wednesday, citing the need to “cleanse pro-North Korean forces and maintain the liberal constitutional order.” According to him, attempts to initiate impeachment proceedings against him posed a threat of paralyzing the government.

In response to the declaration of martial law, many politicians and human rights organizations expressed concerns about the possible infringement of citizens’ rights and freedoms, leading to extensive discussions in both society and Parliament.
