South Korea’s opposition has called for the president to be held accountable

South Korea’s opposition Democratic Party has called for President Yoon Suk-yeol to be held accountable for an alleged violation of the constitution.

The statement was made by party representative Kim Min-sok. Earlier, President Yoon announced the imposition of martial law, citing the need to combat “pro-North Korean forces” and maintain a liberal constitutional order. He also claimed that attempts at impeachment threaten to paralyze the government.

The opposition views the declaration of martial law as unconstitutional.

The president must be held accountable for his actions, Kim Min-sok wrote on social media.

The South Korean parliament voted to annul the martial law. Speaker of the National Assembly, U Won-sik, stated at a session broadcast on YTN that he did not support the president’s actions.
