Trump could usher in a new era of pardons

Donald Trump, who won the U.S. presidential election, may initiate a new era of pardons following President Joe Biden’s recent decision to pardon his son Hunter.

According to Newsweek, Trump could use this practice to strengthen his position and target his opponents.

Trump is likely to begin a new era of pardons. With the support of the Supreme Court, he will be fully protected from legal consequences, even if he uses his powers to persecute his enemies, the publication writes.

However, experts warn that Trump’s actions may face limitations. Presidential pardons do not apply to crimes under the jurisdiction of individual states and do not protect against civil lawsuits.

Additionally, the publication notes that not all of Trump’s allies may be guaranteed pardons. Trump makes impulsive decisions and does not always follow the advice of his advisers. Blind loyalty will not be enough. If following orders harms Trump himself, you may lose not only your position but also the right to a pardon, the article emphasizes.

On December 1, Biden announced he had pardoned his son Hunter, covering the period from January 1, 2014, to December 1, 2024, and two legal cases in Delaware and California. In California, Hunter Biden admitted guilt to tax evasion. Donald Trump has already called the pardon an abuse of power and a miscarriage of justice.
