Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister opposes Ukraine’s NATO membership

During a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister, Xavier Bettel, expressed opposition to Ukraine joining NATO, citing concerns about increased tensions and potential conflicts.

“I believe that NATO membership will once again bring tension,” Bettel remarked during the discussions. He elaborated that Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance could “immediately lead to further conflicts.”

While opposing NATO membership, Bettel showed support for Ukraine joining the European Union, emphasizing his preference for fostering stronger ties through the EU framework.

Ahead of the session, Bettel also criticized the idea of deploying NATO troops to Ukraine, describing it as an action that could escalate the situation further.
