The Netherlands is preparing for a significant step toward environmental transformation, particularly with the ban on gasoline and diesel vehicles:
Amsterdam aims to become a fully emissions-free city by 2030, including private transport.
Eindhoven plans to ban cars with emissions within the ring road by 2030, and throughout the entire city by 2038.
Utrecht strives to achieve this goal “as soon as possible.”
Other cities, such as Enschede, Gouda and Zandstad, are also considering implementing similar restrictions. However, only 6% of all cars in the Netherlands are electric at the moment.
The ban on internal combustion engine vehicles could pose serious challenges for residents:
The BOVAG Association expresses concerns that some people may feel “exiled” due to the inability to switch to electric cars.
To fully implement these plans, changes in legislation will be required, but the government currently does not plan to make any legislative adjustments.
