EU fails for the third time to agree on 15th package of sanctions against Russia

Representatives of EU countries failed to agree on the 15th sanctions package against Russia during a meeting today, December 6, according to Reuters, citing diplomatic sources.

The agency specifies that among the measures was an extension of the deadline for the Czech Republic to import Russian petroleum products.

EU ambassadors met for the third time to agree on a new package of sanctions against Russia. Agreement at the ambassador level is the first step in the sanctions approval process. After the ambassadors, the package must be approved by the EU Council.

In November, Reuters reported that the 15th sanctions package would target tankers transporting Russian oil and Chinese companies producing drones. According to Bloomberg, the EU aims to approve new restrictions by the end of 2024 and adopt them by February 24, 2025.
