The second round of Romania’s presidential elections has officially commenced, with voting starting at polling stations set up for citizens living abroad.
A total of 950 polling stations were established for Romanian expatriates, who also had the option to vote by mail. The highest number of voting applications came from the Netherlands – 1,653, followed by the United Kingdom with 1,107, Germany at 732, Italy at 478, France at 471, Belgium at 436, and Spain at 409.
The Constitutional Court of Romania confirmed the validity of the first round of the presidential elections on Monday, December 2, which was unexpectedly won by Călin Georgescu. Consequently, the second round of voting is scheduled for December 8, where Georgescu will face off against Elena Lasconi.
