Police charge two students over false shooting report at university

Police have charged two students from the University of West Bohemia with spreading false alarm messages that caused panic following a report of a shooting in one of the university buildings.

Claims from the report, including shouts of “Allahu Akbar,” were not confirmed.

The incident occurred on Wednesday after 4:00 PM, prompting the arrival of dozens of police officers and a special operations unit.

Approximately 1,000 people, including students and university staff, were evacuated from the campus buildings. Streets around the campus were cordoned off for safety.

Under Czech law, spreading false alarms can result in a prison sentence of up to three years.
