On December 7, the U.S. Department of Defense announced a new significant security assistance package for Ukraine worth nearly a billion U.S. dollars.
This was stated on the website of the U.S. Department of Defense.
The aid package, valued at $988 million, includes ammunition for HIMARS systems, drones, equipment, components, and spare parts for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of artillery systems, tanks, and armored vehicles.
This package “is designed to provide Ukraine with the tools necessary to gain an advantage in its fight against Russian aggression,” according to the Pentagon’s statement. The assistance is being provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). This marks the twenty-second USAI package from the Biden administration.
The Biden administration is currently using the remaining funds approved by Congress to deliver military aid to Ukraine.
Recently, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan promised the delivery of hundreds of thousands of additional artillery shells, thousands of missiles, and hundreds of armored vehicles to Ukraine by mid-January.
