Edinburgh city council leader suspended amid allegations of harassment towards Ukrainian refugees

Cammy Day, the leader of Edinburgh City Council and a senior Labour Party politician, has been suspended following allegations of harassment directed at Ukrainian refugees.

According to the Sunday Mail, Day allegedly sent Ukrainian refugees inappropriate messages on social media, questioning their sexual preferences, complimenting their appearances, and inviting them on dates. He was known for his public support for Ukraine, regularly attending pro-Ukrainian rallies and picketing the Russian consulate.

However, several Ukrainian women reported feeling uncomfortable and unsure of how to respond to these messages, considering Day’s position as a government official. It remains unclear whether any meetings occurred as a result of the invitations.

The police have launched an investigation into the allegations, and the Labour Party has suspended Day pending further inquiry.
