Explosion at energy group facility in Italy: two dead, nine injured

An explosion at a storage facility belonging to the energy group Eni near Florence, Italy, has resulted in two fatalities and nine injuries. Additionally, four people are reported missing.

According to an Eni representative, the explosion occurred in the loading area and did not impact the fuel storage tanks. The fire at the site has been extinguished, but Italy’s Civil Protection Agency has urged local residents to avoid the area and remain indoors.

The explosion caused a thick plume of smoke visible from a distance. Experts from the Regional Environmental Protection Agency have arrived on-site to assess potential environmental damage, including any impact on water sources.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident and account for the missing individuals.
