Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has proclaimed a “golden age” for Hungary-U.S. relations under Donald Trump’s presidency, citing strengthened political ties and shared priorities like peace efforts and technological progress.
During a press conference in Budapest, Szijjártó detailed his recent U.S. visit with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, which included a three-hour meeting at Mar-a-Lago with Trump, national security adviser Mike Waltz, and Elon Musk. The discussions emphasized digitalization and artificial intelligence as pivotal to global economic leadership, with Musk’s initiatives taking center stage.
“The prime minister and the president-elect have maintained regular consultations,” Szijjártó noted, underscoring their long-standing rapport. He praised Trump’s election as a win for global peace advocates, particularly regarding the Ukraine conflict.
Szijjártó warned against rash U.S. or European decisions that could obstruct peace efforts before January 2025 and highlighted Hungary’s commitment to diplomacy. Recent talks with Pope Francis and trips to Moscow, Washington, and Florida were part of this broader mission. Looking ahead, Hungary plans further initiatives to push for peace in Ukraine, solidifying its stance on fostering global stability.
