French President Emmanuel Macron will appoint the country’s next prime minister on the morning of Friday, December 13, according to a statement from the Élysée Palace.
Macron’s office announced that a press release regarding the appointment would be issued in the morning. Initially, it was expected that the new head of the French government would be announced on Thursday, December 12, prompting Macron to shorten his visit to Poland.
France has been seeking a new prime minister following the dismissal of Michel Barnier’s minority government, which lasted a record-short 91 days — the first such dismissal since 1962.
Media reports suggest Macron is considering several potential candidates for the position. These include current Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu, François Bayrou, leader of the MoDem (Democratic Movement) party, and Bernard Cazeneuve, a left-leaning politician and former prime minister.
