The German engineering and technology company Robert Bosch GmbH may cut up to 10,000 jobs, the company’s works council has reported.
Bosch, a leading manufacturer of automotive components, is facing challenges in the automobile industry, which is under significant pressure in Germany. The IG Metall union and the company’s works council have urged Bosch’s management to work together on solutions to address the tough market situation. They also warned of possible strikes if negotiations fail, according to Dow Jones.
According to works council chairman Frank Sell, the cuts could affect between 8,000 and 10,000 jobs in Germany. He made the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday.
The company has already reduced working hours for about 2,500 employees, and this measure could be expanded to include up to 10,000 people, Sell noted. Currently, Bosch employs over 120,000 people in Germany.
Bosch representatives stated that additional layoffs could not be ruled out in the future. In November, the company announced plans to cut 5,500 jobs over the coming years.
