According to The Hollywood Reporter, a collection of unreleased Michael Jackson recordings was discovered by Gregg Masgrove in an abandoned storage unit in Van Nuys, California.
This storage unit once belonged to Brian Loren, a music producer and singer, whose whereabouts are currently unknown. Buying abandoned storage units is a popular hobby in the U.S., and Masgrove was also involved in this business.
The tapes contain 12 unreleased tracks that Jackson recorded between 1989 and 1991, before the release of the Dangerous album. Among the discovered songs is a track titled “Don’t Believe It,” which likely refers to rumors that were circulating in the media about the pop star. One particularly interesting track is “Truth on Youth,” a rap duet between Jackson and LL Cool J.
However, Jackson’s fans will most likely never hear these recordings. Masgrove reached out to the Jackson Estate, which conducted its own investigation and declined to purchase the materials for unknown reasons, despite earning $600 million in music rights revenue in 2024 alone. In their response, the company made it clear that neither he nor any future buyers would hold the copyright to these recordings or compositions. As a result, these tracks are unlikely to ever be released to the public.
