Maldives has completely banned vaping: the law comes into force

In the Maldives, a full ban on vaping will come into effect on December 15, according to the local publication Press.

Starting tomorrow, a legally mandated ban on vaping will be enforced in the Maldives, the report states. The ban is based on the first amendment to the Tobacco Control Act, passed by the country’s parliament on November 12 and signed into law by the president on November 13.

Under the amendment, the import, sale, distribution, and use of electronic cigarettes, vaping devices, and any products designed for their use are now prohibited across the nation.

As reported by Xinhua News Agency, violations of the ban on importing such devices will result in fines of approximately $3,200.

The Maldives joins the list of countries that have implemented strict measures to combat the spread of vaping. Authorities emphasize that the new law aims to protect public health and prevent the growing incidence of addiction to nicotine-containing products.
