President-elect Donald Trump announced on Saturday, December 14, the appointment of former U.S. Ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, as Presidential Envoy for Special Missions.
Trump emphasized that Grenell will focus on issues related to the world’s most volatile regions, including Venezuela and North Korea. The primary goal of his work will be to promote the “peace through strength” doctrine and advance the “America First” agenda.
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Allen Grenell as Presidential Envoy for Special Missions. He will address the most critical hotspots around the globe, such as Venezuela and North Korea, Trump stated.
He added that Grenell will continue to fight for peace through strength and prioritize America’s interests on the international stage.
Previously, Richard Grenell was considered a leading candidate for the position of U.S. Secretary of State. However, Trump ultimately chose Senator Marco Rubio for the role, a decision that reportedly surprised and disappointed some of Grenell’s supporters.
