On Sunday, December 15, an explosion occurred in a residential building in the city of Znojmo in southern Czechia, injuring eight people.
The explosion happened around 11 a.m. in an old single-story house privately owned. The blast caused the front wall of the building to collapse onto the sidewalk, damaged the roof, and shattered windows in both the affected building and the one across the street.
Witnesses reported that the sound of the explosion and the shockwave could be heard several kilometers away. Among the injured, one person was trapped under the rubble and had to be rescued by helicopter. Their condition is reported as serious. Another individual sustained moderate injuries, while the rest suffered minor injuries, according to local rescue teams.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest it may have been caused by a gas leak.
