Former Romanian presidential candidate threatens Constitutional Court judges with jail terms

Former Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu made harsh statements against the judges of the Constitutional Court, threatening them with “severe prison sentences” for their decision to annul the results of the presidential election.

Georgescu accused the judges of violating their oath and urged them to reconsider the decision, which he deems a mistake.

“Correct your mistake so that people can once again trust the institutions! Otherwise, not even hell will offer you refuge. Remember, you risk paying for the annulled votes with years of imprisonment. No one is above the law – not even you, and especially you, those who are supposed to protect the law,” Georgescu declared.

On December 6, the Constitutional Court of Romania annulled the results of the first round of elections, in which Georgescu had been leading. The court also ordered the election process to start over.

The decision was based on documents released by the Supreme Council of National Defense, which claimed that Georgescu’s campaign was part of an organized foreign manipulation effort.
