Szijjártó: EU fails to realize new reality with Trump’s arrival

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated that the European Union is unable to accept the new reality associated with the upcoming inauguration of the new U.S. President Donald Trump and the ongoing advance of Russian forces.

Nevertheless, Hungary continues to advocate for a Christmas ceasefire, even though Ukraine has already rejected the initiative.

Unfortunately, the Ukrainian leadership has refused this opportunity for a ceasefire, which remains on the table despite Hungary’s efforts for peaceful resolution, Szijjártó said in a video address shared on Facebook.

Szijjártó also noted that most EU countries fail to adequately perceive the current situation, ignoring the approaching inauguration of Trump and the daily progress of the Russian military.

A qualitatively new reality has emerged, but many in Europe prefer to act as if nothing has changed, the minister emphasized.

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán proposed the idea of a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, as well as a Christmas ceasefire. This proposal was communicated to both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but, according to Orbán, Zelensky rejected it.
