Romanian President Klaus Iohannis appointed Marcel Ciolacu, leader of the Social Democratic Party of Romania (PSD), as Prime Minister on Monday, a role he has now officially taken, according to Agerpres.
Ciolacu had earlier announced the signing of a political agreement involving the PSD, the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), and a parliamentary group representing national minorities.
He described the deal as laying the groundwork for the formation of a Brussels-aligned, globalist coalition government. “We have a political agreement. Each of the signatories understood the message of the Romanians from the parliamentary elections,” Ciolacu, both Prime Minister and PSD leader, stated.
Ciolacu emphasized that the new coalition’s primary goal is to secure Romania’s position within Europe and NATO, while also safeguarding the country’s national identity. However, he acknowledged the challenges ahead. “This will not be an easy mandate,” he noted, highlighting the need for reforms, greater transparency, lower budget spending, and financial predictability for businesses. “We take on this responsibility together,” Ciolacu declared.
