Air and rail traffic disruptions can be expected in December and January due to strikes in Europe

Europe will see several travel disruptions due to strikes in December and January, affecting flights, trains and public transport.

In Italy, a national public transport strike on 10 January will impact buses, trams, commuter trains, ferries and metro lines. Long-distance rail and taxis are expected to run as usual. Additionally, Florence will experience train and tram disruptions on 12 and 25 January due to walkouts by railway and tram staff.

In France, rail strikes starting 11 December will likely continue until Christmas, affecting high-speed TGV, international and regional services. This is due to protests over SNCF’s privatization of regional routes. To be safe, passengers should check schedules for updates.

Portugal’s airports will face flight delays during two 24-hour strikes on 24–25 December and 31 December–1 January, as ground handling workers protest over pay and allowances.

In the UK, Avanti West Coast train services will be disrupted on 31 December and 2 January due to a dispute over pay for rest days. Passengers can reschedule or receive a full refund for tickets. Further strikes are scheduled for every Sunday from 12 January to 25 May.

A bus strike in Spain, which began in November, will continue into December, affecting services, particularly in Murcia and Andalusia, as drivers demand better working conditions and early retirement options.
