Rescuers assist three stranded Ukrainians in Romania’s Maramureș mountains

Three Ukrainian citizens, stranded for several days in one of the most challenging areas of the Romanian Maramureș mountain range, called for help on the evening of December 24.

The Maramureș mountain rescue service reported that the Ukrainians were “exhausted, hypothermic due to being wet, and without food” when they contacted rescuers.

A rapid response team, supported by border police and two other rescue groups, was promptly dispatched to assist. The rescue operation took place in the same area where, on December 24, 2022, seven other Ukrainians had also called for help.

The Maramureș mountain rescue service described the mission as one of the most difficult due to both the challenging terrain and severe weather conditions.
