Venice, Tokyo, Strasbourg, and Lyon will ban alcohol on New Year’s Eve for safety reasons

In Venice, from December 31 to January 1, the consumption of alcohol and drinks in glass or plastic containers is prohibited in public places.

Carrying pepper spray is also banned, with fines ranging from 25 to 500 euros for violators. Tokyo will limit mass gatherings and alcohol consumption in Shibuya from 6 PM on December 31 to 5 AM on January 1. Authorities have also canceled New Year’s parties and will set up barriers around the Hachiko statue.

Strasbourg has banned the sale and consumption of alcohol from noon on December 31 to noon on January 1, while Lyon has restricted alcohol sales from 8 PM on December 31 to 9 AM on January 1 and will impose a fireworks ban.
