Azerbaijan limits stay for Russian citizens to 90 days per year

Azerbaijan has announced new restrictions on the length of stay for Russian citizens in the country, effective January 1, 2025.

According to a decree published on the Azerbaijani government’s website, Russian citizens and stateless persons permanently residing in Russia will be limited to a maximum stay of 90 days within a single calendar year.

“The temporary stay of citizens of the Russian Federation entering the Republic of Azerbaijan without a visa, as well as stateless persons permanently residing in the Russian Federation, cannot exceed 90 days within a single calendar year,” the decree states.

The decision, signed by Prime Minister Ali Asadov, was introduced as a reciprocal measure following Russia’s implementation of a similar restriction for Azerbaijani citizens in Russia, as noted by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The announcement coincides with recent news of a tragic plane crash involving an Azerbaijani aircraft. On December 25, an Embraer jet operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, traveling from Baku to Grozny, crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, killing 38 people.
