China unveils prototype of train that travels 450km per hour

On Sunday, China’s State Railway Group (CRRC) revealed the CR450, a new high-speed train prototype capable of reaching 450 km/h.

This impressive speed was confirmed during test runs, showcasing China’s advancements in railway technology. The CR450 is 50 km/h faster than the current record holder, the CR400 Fuxing, which was developed entirely by China without relying on foreign technology. However, magnetic levitation trains like the Shanghai Maglev still hold the speed crown, reaching up to 501 km/h.

CRRC highlights the CR450’s efficiency, noting a 22% reduction in rolling resistance and a total weight reduction of nearly 10%. The train also promises improved passenger comfort with larger cabins, quieter operations, and smart, personalized services. China Railway plans further tests to ensure the CR450 is ready for commercial service soon.
