Germany pledges €60 million in aid for Syria

The German government has launched several aid projects for Syria totaling €60 million, announced Svenja Schulze, Germany’s Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Schulze described the current situation in Syria, where rebel forces recently overthrew Bashar al-Assad’s regime, as “catastrophic.”

“However, there is an opportunity for positive developments, and we must do everything possible to support it,” Schulze stated.

She clarified that the planned projects will not involve cooperation with Syrian authorities but will be implemented exclusively through UN humanitarian agencies and non-governmental organizations.

Previously, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz pledged support for Syria’s reconstruction following the collapse of the Assad regime.
