In Germany, security and intelligence officials were questioned by a parliamentary committee about the mistakes that led to the terrorist attack at the Christmas market in Magdeburg.
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated that the suspect showed signs of pathological behavior, but the motive is yet to be determined. MP Konstantin Kühle pointed out that the authorities were aware of the criminal but failed to connect the dots.
Five people were killed, including a nine-year-old boy, when the man drove his car into a crowd on December 20.
Details of threats made by the suspect, Taleb A., before the attack were also revealed. In 2013, he threatened to commit an act of violence, comparing it to the Boston Marathon bombing. In August 2015, he wrote a letter to the Attorney General expressing hatred towards the German authorities. The prosecution is investigating the incident as intentional murder and attempted murder.
